LOS ANGELES (AP) — One Direction and Katy Perry were the big winners at the American Music Awards, although Iggy Azalea probably is more excited than either of them. One Direction and Perry won three each, and One Direction won artist of the year. Azalea says her award for favorite rap/hip-hop album for “The New Classic” was the first award she’s ever won in her life.
She says hip-hop inspired her to move to America from Australia and pursue her dreams. She also won favorite rap/hip-hop artist. Sam Smith won for favorite male pop/rock artist. He says he wrote an album about being lonely and last night he couldn’t feel further from lonely.
TAYLOR SWIFT GETS SPECIAL AMERICAN MUSIC AWARD
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Taylor Swift is thanking all her fans who bought her albums because they chose to buy her music in that form. Swift said at last night’s American Music Awards she appreciates fans for investing in her albums because it means they think like she does: “That music is valuable and that music should be consumed in albums and albums should be consumed as art and appreciated.” Swift recently pulled her catalog off the music streaming service Spotify. Swift was given the Dick Clark Award for Excellence at the AMAs.
