A Gentleman in Moscow – A novel by Amor Towles
Do you ever have friends that tell you that you ‘have to read this book’ and then you are disappointed because your idea of a good book is different than your friend? Well, this recommendation was a winner and I enjoyed it immensely.
My husband and I are both avid readers and are always looking for a new author or book or series that we can read. We had a long road trip planned after Christmas and needed a good book to listen to as we drove five hundred miles to our destination, so I downloaded the audio novel.
The book is narrated by Nicholas Guy Smith, and Englishman with a lovely voice that adds another dimension to the story. A Gentleman in Moscow describes the unique situation and elegant atmosphere that Count Alexander Rostov finds himself experiencing during the early 1920’s in Mother Russia, an era of great change. Towles has a beautiful writing style and brings a somewhat sad and dangerous story to the reader with wonderful humor.
I wholeheartedly recommend the audiobook, just be prepared for a long and riveting novel as it is nearly 18 hours of entertainment.
